I thought I could overcome my addiction, but I was wrong. It’s slowly eating back at me. Slowly.
And surely.
This time, it’s All In. It’s definitely soapy, but what I found pretty amazing was that it was based on a true story. That means some guy led a pretty exciting life! Of course he probably doesn’t look as good as Lee Byung Hun. He’s pretty hot!
Add to that his sweetheart is Song Hye Gyo. That’s a good enough formula to keep anyone glued to the telly.
The drama is set partially in Jeju, so there are some particularly beautiful scenes. Now I’m really looking forward to vacationing there.
Apparently the Koreans have kinda weird habits, I haven’t really paid much attention to it though. I have noticed that they will wait for their elders to sit first before they do.
Anyway. Going back to my drama. It’s getting way exciting.

They’re finally showing Prison Break and that’s fantastic. I’m sure it’s a great show and all, but Wentworth Miller is all I’m watching.
He’s so hot.
On the homefront, I’m not feeling all that hot. All that eating all over Southeast Asia is not sitting down well. I don’t like not feeling 100%; but fortunately it hasn’t happened too much this year. Should probably get some rest this weekend and rest the ikkies off.

our vietnamese guide – the hamtoro

No reason for this post, except to say that I think the trip to Vietnam was great, and I’m glad we left before it lost it’s charm.
The city is a conundrum trying to figure itself out – it’s like they went on an industrialisation spree in the seventies, then for some strange reason were suspended in time for thirty years. They woke up a few years back from their slumber to realise that the world moved on and jumped on the bandwagon.
So while people are on ADSL and going nuts on the internet, the old ladies still throng the streets in their little pointy hats lugging two baskets filled with fruit suspended by bamboo over her shoulder. Bad sentence, but funny, huh.
And my goodness, let’s not get started on the traffic.
So goodnight Saigon, you were an amazing city, I love your wide boulevards, but the traffic around the circles are nuts.
Oh, and I think Hady deserves to win.
Goodnight Saigon

I’ve put my finger(s) on why I’m enamoured with Ho Chi Minh City. It’s more than the rice rolls, pho and the Park Hyatt Saigon.
It’s like an old dame who’s stuck in time waiting for someone while the world went on and grew up around her here and there.
The buildings and homes are a throwback from a bygone era, and technology is slowly rearing its ugly head here and there. The people on scooters swerve around to try to avoid you, because the traffic doesn’t stop.
The expats can still savour the last remnants of colonial indulgence. While the locals capitalise on the romance of the baguettes for afternoon tea and white linens lifestyle and dream up some really inspiring ventures.
I like the personality of the city.
Of course, the food and the hotel room are dreamy so there’s no complaining there either.
Tons of thanks to our lovely host Hamtoro Nguyen, without whom I won’t be able to ask for another pair of chopsticks for my fresh rice rolls. I guess I’ll have to stop annoying him.

We’re at the final stop on our Southeast Asian tour, and it’s turning out to be the most eye opening.
We’re in Ho Chi Minh City now, and I already like it. It also helps that we were booked into the really grand Park Hyatt Saigon.
What really amazes me is the traffic – the unless stream of vespas are a little intimidating, but an attempt to cross the road today went well. The riders try their best to avoid you.
TA is playing host this time, and he’s giving Jet a good run for the buck. He made the arrangements to get us shuttled to the hotel, and made reservations for dinner for us at a really quaint restaurant where they served local street food, in a non-street environment. There are five other people who can attest that I can fluently ask for more fish sauce in Vietnamese. And more fish sauce was promptly delivered.
After that we went to a quaint little place for coffee – and I learnt that sa-poh-dila (sic?) is really chiku.
So now I’m back in my swanky room, waiting to take my bath. I brought my Bliss vacation set too – can’t wait to try Soapy Sap. More photos on Flickr, bye for now.
Aargh!! Toe Cramp!!
19/09/2006
Don’t you just hate it when you get that thing where you twist the first two toes of your left foot with the same two toes on your right, and the right toes start cramping?
I meant to blog about the evolution of the iPod, but not today I guess. The new Nanos are fugly, really. I think the Shuffle is kinda cute, though.
Am getting ready for the trip to Vietnam. Lilmurmurs would be proud of me today, I came home and wiped the floors down.
Maybe the toe cramp is a precursor to a long day ahead.

Yay! Yay! Yay!
Still in Malaysia, and thanks to our local guide Mr Jet Star (SE) Asia, we’ve got to taste real bak kut teh.
In the World According to Jet Choy, bak kut teh originated in Malaysia. Ok, we’ll give you that one.
It was about a 30 minute drive down to a residential area. By the time we got there, we were all good and ready for a hearty breakfast. And it didn’t disappoint.
Jet ordered a mix of spare ribs and lean+fat+skin cut (aka: 3 layered meat) in soup. The side dishes are then promptly brought over, dim sum style (sans cart). The soup and meat is also served with yam rice.
The soup was the herbal type, not peppery at all. It was really quite pleasant, but it was the chopped garlic + black sauce accompaniment that made the dish special in my mind.
Jet was really enthusiastic about showing us around his homeland, and we had a good time. Many thanks to him for being a good host. I guess I’ll need to be nice to him next week.

Will be on the road again tomorrow, this time we’re headed to what could’ve been our capital, Kuala Lumpur.
I managed to get quite a lot done today.
- Bought my year’s supply of contact lenses at lunch. Yay! Getting the new moist ones, too!
- Got a manicure and pedicure. Found the shop off Cozycot forum. It wasn’t too bad.
- Got my eyebrows tweezed. Again, found the specific person and store location off Cozycot. Damn I really like these forums.
Lots of stuff done!
We managed to sell off the Macbook today too, yay.
See you in a few days when I get back. In the meantime, stay cool!
