Sleepless
05/09/2006
My dad brought over a bag of stuff from my room at my parents’ a week ago. After repeated attempts to have me evacuate my room (which spanned all of 3 years), he finally sat down and got down to it himself. It must have been difficult, my previously cold, utilitarian, type A father going back in time through the mind of a nutjob drama queen.
Apparently this was the first bag in a succession, as he ploughs through another part of my room.
Again having problems sleeping tonight, but it usually gets this way before an early flight. I get nervous the night before departure, probably a little afraid that I might oversleep and miss the flight. It compounds the issue because the more anxious I get, the less sleep I get and the more tired I am when it actually comes time to leave the house. It’s a good thing Sharks gave me a call the last time.
So tonight, I went through the stuff my dad brought over. Some of the letters date back to 1993. They were written by some of my best friends. There were cards, photos, postcards, serviettes, posters, bells, ribbons, envelopes, medals, string, paper, raw dramatics of teenagers, simple emotions of youngsters who are finally living.
My old diaries and journals read like a drama queen I hope my kids will never suffer to be. That’s probably a bad sentence. I hope they also write better.
I hope everyone in the stack of letters and cards is doing well. Unfortunately, it would seem pen and paper stand the test of time better than friendship with me.
For aspiring postcard senders and letter writers, here are some things to remember.
Dating your stuff really puts it together nicely.
If you’re trying to impress a chick, write a message in the card. Don’t make do with the stock message, it’s lame.
Girls don’t really like the egoistic jangle of a guy who thinks he’s God’s gift.
Neither do they like the sad inconfidence of the one who tries to please.
But enough of that.
I love Batman Begins. Liam Neeson and Christian Bale are two of the sexiest talkers on earth. It’s pure enjoyment when they talk to each other. Even more so when they say stuff like wraith, fear, legend, master your senses.
Good night world. Back in a jiffy!
