our vietnamese guide – the hamtoro
25/09/2006
No reason for this post, except to say that I think the trip to Vietnam was great, and I’m glad we left before it lost it’s charm.
The city is a conundrum trying to figure itself out – it’s like they went on an industrialisation spree in the seventies, then for some strange reason were suspended in time for thirty years. They woke up a few years back from their slumber to realise that the world moved on and jumped on the bandwagon.
So while people are on ADSL and going nuts on the internet, the old ladies still throng the streets in their little pointy hats lugging two baskets filled with fruit suspended by bamboo over her shoulder. Bad sentence, but funny, huh.
And my goodness, let’s not get started on the traffic.
So goodnight Saigon, you were an amazing city, I love your wide boulevards, but the traffic around the circles are nuts.
Oh, and I think Hady deserves to win.
