More all in

All in is really turning out to be a good serial. Sure there is the obligatory love story. That’s a given. But it’s a tragedy without being overly weepy.
If there are three Korean Dramas you have to watch – besides the flaky funny love stories I succumb to for the eye candy – these are it:
- Fashion 70s: set during the Korean War, about a pair of girls whose lives were switched.
- Lawyers: has my favourite Kim Sung Soo in it as a diabolical lawyer who is more than he appears to be.
- All In: stars my favourite Korean of the week, LBH. He’s way hot for an old guy, but he’s got that low maintenance look that is rare in a Korean film star.
Ah hah! Looks like Lee Byung Hun speaks English. And pretty well too. That gives him another 10 points in my little black book.
Speaking of books, I’m convinced that 40% of a book’s success is it’s title. Honestly. Thats why no one wants to read something called A Book on C/C++ but everyone would want to read something called Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Similarly, who’d read something like Short stories: All the Stories I Failed to Complete, when you’ve stuff like Angels and Visitations, Smoke and Mirrors and now, Fragile Things.
Love Neil Gaiman. Now I just have to go home and figure out if I’ve already got Angels and Visitations before I order it again.
House keeping

I went to my folks’ place tonight to see the remains of my room. My dad has been clearing it out like a little ant for a few months now, bringing me bags of my stuff. Mostly stuff he thinks is important to me, like Unix textbooks which weren’t mine to begin with.
I went to my closet to hunt for clothes, and found that he’s also cleared my closet. So gone are most of my clothes, my old school uniforms (sorry Lilmurmurs!) and my casual clothes. What’s left are the remnants of my previous work attire – a few jackets, tailored pants and shirts.
That’s my dad – not exactly the same quiet efficiency you expect out of a geek – but efficient all the same. He used to be a lot quieter, but I guess age has made him a lot more vocal.
My room has now been converted to my parents’ guest room. My uncle now stays there when he visits. Which isn’t as bad as having my room converted to the room for the cats, which is what my brother’s room now is. It’s larger than mine, but mine has a slightly better view.
I suppose a couple of years back I would’ve been a little upset that my stuff was thrown out, especially my old school uniforms, notes, letters, knick-knacks and all. I expected to be a little more upset, actually. But my dad was always reminding me that I had all that stuff left and that if I didn’t clear it out he would.
And he did.
I guess if you can convince yourself that marriage is a partnership and not a ceremony, commitment is a state of mind and not a ring on your finger, then it’s easy to convince yourself that memories are in your head, not your closet.
And life goes on.
