frigid then warm

anti this and that

The weather is going a little wonkers. This morning it was f-ing frigid. Was happy to put on my new long sleeved tops and threw on a jacket – haven’t worn that stuff in years, glad it still fit. G2000 had some really nice cuts for some really nice prices.

I meet a fair number of fellow countrymen in the store, but I’ve never really felt much of an inclination to make a connection. For some strange reason, Singaporeans seem to find comfort in probing.

Anyone who’s ever taken a taxi in Singapore knows what I mean. It’s an asking society. And they’re pretty obnoxious questions. They always hover around what you do, alluding to how much you make, or where you live.

Look, Uncle. I’m 5,000 miles away from home. WTF does it matter wtf I used to live?

So from now on I’m going to lie. Deliberately and compulsively. I used to let taxi drivers make up their own stories about me – anything from waitress at the restaurant near the office, to insurance agent because I got off at Great Eastern Life Building.

I used to just fib, or divert the questions. But now, I’m going to just make up stories.

I’m going to live in somewhere like Telok Blangah. I used to be an insurance agent, but alas. All my clients died and the company was very unhappy with me so I got fired. I tried to go into real estate when the housing boom started, but I kena all the haunted houses, so I gave up and moved here to be content bagging teas for downright kaypoh fellow countrymen.

There. I’m satisfied with that.

reach

Funny how “chilly” means cold, and “chilli” means hot.

It was freaking chilly today. Almost frigid except I spent most of it in the store, so only my appendages pretty much froze. The rest of me was ok. Good thing yesterday I went to Target and got myself some sweaters. Looks like the weather is changing.

And quickly.

Mid-Autumn is coming up, and after that the days are going to get much shorter. Can’t say I’m excited about that.

On the internet front, I finally tried Facebook out. Granted I found a few old friends on it, the novelty lasted all of what, a day. And I thought Mash was messed up.

Damn, if Facebook had a face, it’d be a langar-face.

I’m not going to be one of those people who leave some place then bash it to death. I still love the Big Why, though I’m jaded with the mess it has created internally and internationally. But hey. There’s no better place to be on the internet. Really.

Tried mash today, and it’s all they said it would be. It’s a fun profile tool. You can personalise it. You can have your friends create it for you. You can put your videos and all on it. It’s what 360 should have been.

The nagging question though, is what value does it really add?

I don’t know. Maybe I’m just a little too old for it.

Incidentally, here’s a theme that should bring back memories -

suicide is painless, it brings on many changes, and I can take or leave it if I please.

northbound traffic

It’s been about two months since we landed up here, and we’ve sort of settled into some sort of routine.

We get back from dinner and I spend the evenings surfing, playing with the Wii or otherwise just lazing, and end up sleeping at about 1-2am. Just like old times.

Most days I get up frightfully late (sometimes 9.30am in a huff) and fly off in a tizzy to shower, dress and make KF drive me to the store. I typically get in past opening, most times Peat already has a couple of customers sitting at his little table.

That still doesn’t stop me from dodging around and heading out to breakfast, though. :D

On days I actually take the bus, I’ve my Orange on hand, filled with my favourite tunes. It’s not an unpleasant ride.

At the store, I spend my downtime annoying everyone. From KF’s cousins Peat and Al, to the other workers, to Mighty Mouse.

I still eat far too much for dinner, and go right home and veg out. I still don’t work out, and get fat.

I guess there is more comfort in the similarities than the differences in life.

bike route

Thanks to the usual suspects who contributed to the package that came with the TanI Delivery Service, it will come in handy since I don’t get TV! Entertainment – priceless.

Spent the last couple of days stuffing my face and shopping, and while I know I should stop doing both, they are so addictive. I’m giving myself up to the 12 Sep to indulge. After which I hope things will pipe down to normal.

Please take some time out today to celebrate International Genius Day.
