new neighbourhood

brownies (from) next door

Our neighbours dropped by just now, bearing brownies. It’s a nice gesture, though being from where I’m from, it takes a little getting used to.

I know. I must come from a pretty socially deserted place to need to get used to friendly neighbours.

But everyone here seems to want to chat. I’m not really prepared for extended amounts of socialising with complete strangers on the street, really. Can’t I do a spot of gardening without having to make conversation with lonely grandmas walking their grandkids? Do I look like I really want to be goo-gooing over the kid? Really? They don’t even live on the street, for that matter. I can withstand a “good morning” or “hi”. But anything beyond, I think, is superfluous.

It really doesn’t matter.

That said, I really like our brownie bearing neighbours. They seem genuinely nice, and considerate. That kind of social interaction, I don’t really mind because we share some common property, and they’re not snoopy. They’re actually pretty quiet – which is nice because the walls are not all that thick.

In other news, the new shower head is working so well, it’s fun to shower again.
