sunny weather

Sunny weather calls for some major gardening. Last week I composted the backyard, getting it ready for seed planting. Haven’t really decided what to plant (bad idea) but I’ve decided I’m taking this year to experiment. If it’s mishmash, it’s mishmash, I’ll rectify it next year.

Looks like it’s going to rain next tomorrow and the day after, so I decided to mow the lawn. But the stinky white daisy like flowers were totally in the way, so I decided to prune it a little. Ok. A little is a bit of an understatement – the only reason why it’s not completely gone is because it was hard to get rid of them while the ground was hard, and I didn’t have anything to replace it with. Need more compost to fix the patch too.

It’s pretty bare now, and after the rain and when the lilies-of-the-valley show up I think I’ll dig that patch up and replant it. I’m just a little afraid of having to dig up that hugeass spikey plant. But I’ll manage. I also pruned the super-wild-ass-wildflowers that invaded the side of the garage. Love those trimmers!!!

My peonies showed up today, so I washed off the sawdust and am soaking them now. That pretty much caused the pruning in the front – I intend to plant the peonies there. A couple of tiny roses too, maybe, and some annuals for some spring/summer colour.

The thing about working in the yard is after about 2 hours, I’m totally knackered. I didn’t even have the energy to cut the grass. Toying with the idea of getting a push mower, but haven’t decided if the ground is going to be suitable for it. Push mowers are great for flat ground, but my lawn isn’t totally flat. I might have to spread some compost over to even it out too. Lots to be done, might have to take a break for the rest of the week if it rains, but on the bright side, I won’t have to water them so much!

Knitting is a lot less tiring.
